University of Texas Health Center at Tyler

To serve East Texas and beyond through excellent patient care and community health, comprehensive education, and innovative research.

With continued community support, we will carry out our ambitious mission to serve East Texas and beyond through excellent patient care and community health, comprehensive education, and innovative research.

State Senate Bill 1300, passed in 1977, became a landmark piece of legislation for East Texas: through it, the Health Science Center became a component of The University of Texas System.

That bill authorized UTHSCT to pursue its current three-fold mission of excellent patient care and community health, comprehensive education, and innovative research.

Today, with more than 20 outpatient clinics, a hospital, and an Emergency Care Center, UT Health Science Center has over 164,000 visits a year and more than 3,000 inpatient admissions each year.

UTHSCT offers 30 areas of specialty care, including adult and pediatric pulmonary and infectious disease, cardiology, oncology, family practice and internal medicine, occupational medicine, asthma, allergy, lung disease, diabetes, aging, and gastroenterology.

The rich history of UT Health Science Center goes back to World War II. The site where UTHSCT stands today was once part of Camp Fannin, an infantry training center which prepared more than 100,000 men a year for combat.
